J. Crew stripe tee, old Gap maxi skirt (also seen here) – I love this bright pink skirt too, H&M sparkle clutch, Butter London nail polish in ‘La Moss’, Sephora Collection Rouge Cream lipstick in Crush 23

I know it’s technically all about Oxblood these days, but I am having fun with the whole range of burgundys and cranberrys. They make my hot pink feel fresh and seasonally appropriate. x

the trend board project

Sometimes, to take a break from the real serious business I do at my job, I like to create fun mood/trend boards for inspiration, putting to good use all of those magazines I have lying around. I love that my job is such a mix of left brain/right brain – just like me. Creative, but good at math.

Here are a few of my latest…

“Ultimately, fashion is all about gut anyway — there’s no science to what this should look like or that should look like or how many times you can redraw that or resketch that or redo that catalogue cover. The fact of the matter is, either it grabs you or it doesn’t.”

Madewell dress, old scarf, but I love this Gap snood, Frye booties, Ray Ban Wayfarers, Kooba Camden satchel (on sale, love the black one too)

After a whirlwind and honestly, tough, couple of weeks here in wondergirl life, things are finally starting to really look up. good thing everything really is cyclical right? it all comes back around.

I couldn’t really say no to this long sleeved Madewell floral number, as I pretty much try to take any opportunity to blend my free spirited Seattle girl roots/fantasy bohemian life with my actual 9 to 5 city working girl reality. This dress just fit the bill so nicely and proved to be excellent retail therapy. TGIF loves! Thanks, as always, for visiting xx

Happy Halloween!

On Saturday night I dressed up for a friend’s party as Lana Del Rey in her SNL dress, talon nails and all. Tonight, I’m dressing up again and thinking of going as Blair Waldorf circa season 1, which is now, of course, a vintage look. I love dressing up and getting into character for Halloween. Check out my past costumes documented on this blog: Wednesday Addams and a mermaid. I basically just like to dress up in characters where I can wear fun makeup! All in good fun.

Hope you all have fun Halloweens! xx

month end inspiration

When I find myself drifting through the week, mindlessly and apathetically going through the motions of the day to day grind, I find that what I really need to snap out of it is a good dose of creative inspiration.  It’s funny because after I realize this is what I need and hunt and gather in my environment, I always find that inspiration really is everywhere, if you keep a lookout for it. So here it is, what is currently inspiring me through the end of this month…

Metric’s new album ‘Synthetica’ …. new Frye Sylvia Piped booties just arrived! Just in time for tights season … the movie is getting mixed reviews, but my best friend loved the book Cloud Atlas’, so it’s now on my ereader… after an extensive search, finally found the perfect shade of Oxblood nail polish, no idea why it was so elusive … Cat Power’s new album ‘Sun’ is also currently on heavy rotation, especially the killer track ‘Manhattan’ … the new Free People November catalog featuring all kinds of ‘Harvest Moon’ Autumnal Gypsy looks (see it all here) has me all excited for layering and lush velvet … caught my favorite Halloweeny movie on TV, Practical Magic, I love the styling and color story in the movie, and that magical all white witchy house…

Happy almost Halloween!

in fashion, what i wore

H&M Shift dress (cute madewell one here), Club Monaco vest, Gap black cardigan,  Ray Ban Wayfarers, Argentum & Aurum heart necklaces, my grandmother’s ‘R’ and long Swarovski chain necklace

I decided to mix up some black and khaki neutrals with this summery sleeveless shirtdress to make it more fall appropriate and create an interesting colorblocked look. My coworker commented that this was the outfit incarnate of her favorite Loeffler Randall colorblock heels (see: here), and a winning, if unconventional, color combo. It’s always fun when you get positive feedback from the general public when you experiment a little on your outfit. Love that she approved!

also: when I was taking these pictures my friend reminded me that it had been a while since I had worn pink. This blog used to be covered in pictures of me wearing pink (see here, here, here and here), and then apparently, I took a break. Well, the pink is back, at least for today.
