Fashion Week Australia Street Style

I realize I am about a week posting this, but while spending some quality time perusing the world wide web with a glass of wine last night, I somehow ended up deep into Australian Fashion Week street style snaps and just couldn’t get enough. I found myself being more inspired by these gals than I have been in a long time. There is something about the relaxed Sydney beach culture mixed with a love of high fashion that makes for my pretty much holy grail of street style. The FWA look is undone (beachy hair!) a little bit sporty, and mismatched, like everyone rifled through their closets to come up with their new favorite combo. And personally, that’s how I like to dress. It all just really did it for me. These are my top inspirational photos and the lessons I learned from these looks.

The one and only, Taylor Tomasi Hill, in a fringe necklace and multicolored reflective sunglasses. Quick, get me some Oakley Frogskins!

cropped tee shirt sweater and a fun/tourist bag

a giant oversized sweater coat + mustard & purple + aviators & beach hair, oh my!

TTH at it again: crochet skirt and those Prada heels with wings!

aqua snakeskin leather mini and the most fun bag ever (more fringe!)

athletic turquoise sweater layered over floral peplum dress + more multicolored reflective glasses

Navy lace “suit” + your favorite worn-in brown leather satchel

leather pencil skirt + cropped grey tee shirt + oversized mint grandpa cardigan. I’ll recreate with this and Madewell’s aqua colorwash cardigan

Did you notice how amazing everyone’s accessories are? And did you notice all of the shades of aqua and turquoise peppered into these photos?! I’m so on that.

oh and if you’d like a glimpse of the best of what came down the runway – check out Moda Operandi’s cheeky little video they did for their first foray into carrying Australian designers here

take me to Paris

Altuzarra for J.Crew Patricia striped dress, Barney’s cashmere scarf, Ray Ban aviators, Marc by Marc Jacobs purse, Bottega Veneta wedges

I admittedly have been listening to the ‘Midnight in Paris’ soundtrack a lot lately. On top of that there is the new Parisian Joseph Altuzarra for J. Crew collection inspired by “Brigitte Bardot in Saint-Tropez and French preppy style” and all of a sudden I’ve got seriously bad Francophilia. Like please, take me away to Paris! All I can think about is sneaking away for a jaunt through France wearing this outfit.  I’ve become a little obsessed with this stripe dress and how cute is this Marc bag?  Black and white stripes and a pop of color. In France. A girl can dream…

seeing the beauty

Everything has beauty, but not everyone sees it.

Confucius

A perfect for Spring men’s shawl collar sweater to throw over everything, my latest obsession Zara heels, and me in my new glasses I have been wearing around lately (you would never know this because I always wear contacts but I’m pretty blind). xx

dress // pants

Aritzia sweater and tee shirt dress, Gap pink denim, Old Navy tassel earrings (I just bought them in a store, they are seemingly unavailable online), Covergirl Lip Perfection in ‘Divine’ lipstick

I’ve done it. I’ve brought it back. The dress over jeans look. You know, the one I was so into around 2003-2004 (must find you picture of 19th birthday dinner outfit…). But believe it or not, it’s kinda like, a trend again (I do not lie, see here, here and here see #3). It all comes back doesn’t it? This is my mild and timid version but someday soon I am thinking of trying to go full on pouf skirt over denim leggings. Hmm…. gotta find the perfect combo. For now, I leave you with this tunic tee shirt dress over denim look.

Say what you will about the tassel earring trend being soooo last season, when I saw these at Old Navy I said I gotta have um. They’re pretty great for like $8, yes? Especially in pretty cobalt blue.

And didn’t you hear? Matching your lipstick to your pants is the new matching your lipstick to your manicure. Get on it.

chambray day

Madewell Chambray shirt, Urban Outfitters, F21 & c/o 31 Bits necklaces, Butter London nail polish in Slapper

Chambray to me just screams easy and carefree. I recently acquired this Madewell shirt and it has become a serious go-to, I just keep wearing it. I love the boyfriend fit and the washed down color. It’s so easy and perfect.

On another note, as we ease into spring I have resurrected all my turquoise and earthy jewelry. It doesn’t feel quite right for winter, but now that the weather is changing….

31 Bits kindly sent me the tri-strand multicolored necklace above. It’s a very cool company started by a bunch of girlfriends in LA with the mission statement “Using fashion and design to empower women to rise above poverty.” All of the jewelry is made out of recycled paper (you would never know it) by women in Uganda. In addition to selling the women’s jewelry, 31 bits also creates and supports programming to provide literacy education, financial and vocational training and holistic care to empower the women to further their careers and attain social equity. The youtube video about the company’s mission touched my heart, you must watch it here. It reminded me of my time spent studying abroad in South Africa and working for a women’s foundation in the townships of Cape Town.

31 Bits reminds me that there are so many different facets to fashion and it really can actually change the world. I plan on acquiring a few more pieces to add to my summer bohemian collection. To shop 31 Bits click here!
